BUCKS FOR BOOKS
Located in and serving Ward 5 in the center of Houston, The Wesley Community Center provides outreach services to all ages. Seven out of every 10 children in the Wesley’s area live below the poverty level. 41% of those children are under the age of 18. 25% of the Wesley community make less than $15,000 annually with 50% of the adults having less than a high school diploma and are seeking work. As part of their outreach, The Wesley Community Center provides early childhood education with certified teachers, literacy and homework programs for elementary through high school students after school, and adult literacy programs.
“Bucks for Books” will enable The Wesley Community Center provide books to their early childhood through adult literacy programs.
At the October 24th GHACC Fall Luncheon, “books” will be available for Area 3 and 18 chapters to fill with money or checks to support these worthwhile and much needed programs at The Wesley Community Center.
