Change for Children:
International Service Project Schools for Africa
Delta Kappa Gamma International and its chapters like Eta Delta paired with UNICEF, the Nelson Mandela Foundation, and the Hamburg Society fund The Schools For Africa Project. This program touches impoverished children in 11 African countries: Angola, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Almost 5 million students, 100,000 teachers and 1,000 schools are benefiting from school supplies, staff development, and safe learning environments.
Each of us were handed one small, red box. The label read "Change for Children" Excited and puzzled, the membership waited for the next instruction. The premise was simple. Each time there was extra change in our pocket or purse, put it in the red box.
The next few months we reminded each other about our red boxes at the meetings or at work. When the box was full the member was given another. By our meeting in March all of our boxes were collected and we waited to find out how much money our chapter would be sending to Africa.
The Change for Children Project continues to raise monies for children who need basic access to a school and materials.
In 2012-13 Eta Delta members raised $404.78 for Change for Children. The next year we added an additional $318.00 for a biennium total of $722.78.
2015 proceeds reached $301.00 for a total project contribution of $1022.78 over a three year period.
Focus on the Community:
Wesley Community Center
Eta Delta LOVES the annual Stock the Shelf Challenge that the Wesley Community Center of Houston hosts each year to feed those who are in need. We started our drive last year with our leadership asking if we would bring 100 pounds of food. We surprised ourselves by bringing over 900 pounds of food. There were so much food that there was difficulty getting it back to the Wesley Center. We were so happy to learn that our help fed over 200 families.
In April 2015 we participated again and we are pleased to be able to give back to the Wesley Community Center food drive! This year we came prepared and filled the back of Bonnie's SUV with with MANY sacks of nutritious food.

Christmas Books and Toys
Each year the ladies of Eta Delta donate books and toys to the Star of Hope Mission for children who have been displaced from their home during the holiday season. These games, dolls, cars and books provide youngsters with a toy to provide comfort and opportunities for socialization with others.
